Keep Barackin’ On (A White, Jewish, Queer Man’s Rap Attempt)
A child born to modest means
A proud Hawaiian native son
Raised with love, care, and faith
Hard working in all he’s done
Successful in the Ivy League
Earning what he had gained
Returning to his community
Never forgetting from where he came
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
As candidate for president
Many said could not come to be
Historic, inspiring, hope endures
Empowering us with potentiality
With Michelle, Malia, and Sasha
Grandma Robinson and doggie Bo
Bringing back life and vitality
To the White House sorely needed so
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
He pushed to stimulate our economy
Helping to reverse a recessive downtrend
His policies helped restore the U.S. auto industry
That if not taken would have spelled disaster around the bend
He tries to end our addiction on fossil fuels
Lowering foreign energy dependency
Standing firm on cleaning our environment
Investing in renewable green sustainability
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
Barack protects women’s right to choose
And for working and poor women’s access to contraception
Standing firm against invasive trans-vaginal ultra-sound procedures
Part of the political right’s cynical deception
He worked to restore dignity and pride
Standing up for marriage equality
Ensuring “out” service members’ right to serve
Reversing harassment, threats, and invisibility
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
He’s committed to quality universal health care
In the face of tremendous and sustained opposition
Courage against all the odds
And knowing deep in his heart the correctness of his position
Barack’s making the world a safer place to live
Increasing our nation’s worldwide admiration
Respected more now than in the past
By people and governments from many a nation
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
He fights attacks and influence by those with super wealth
Who live off profits from work others do
He defends collective bargaining and union rights
And pushes for fair tax rates for the most and not the few
The opposition dangles right-wing social issues
In the faces of the potential Republican convert
In reality against people’s own economic vested interests
To get out the vote, manipulate, and divert
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
Romney said he doesn’t give concern for the poor
But he will make you a ten-thousand dollar bet
And cares about corporations he asserts are people
While he owns more Cadillacs and homes equivalent to a small state’s debt
He speaks for birthers, Limbaughs, and the tea party
Drinking hate-filled racist, sexist, and homophobic potions
Turning immigrants and Muslims into public enemies
Making isolationist and jingoist legislative motions
They attack multiculturalism and ethnic studies
Attempt to place “English only” as the law of the land
Now defining “moderation” & “compromise” as four-letter words
Redefining the latest incarnation of the Republican brand
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
Though the right poses strong headwinds
Trying to distract and push him back
Barack proceeds forward undeterred
Optimistically, confidently, knowingly through all the flack
We have a choice between trickle down and safety nets
Between laws formed beneath conservative church steeples
Between serving interests of big corporations and the rich
Or a civil society and policies generated by We the People
We’ve got to continue his leadership
To help create a land that is fair and just
We’ve got to wade through the talking points and clutter
And cast our vote intelligently is our right and a must
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
“Yes We Can” is more than a slogan
“Yes We Are” is steadily coming to be
“Yes We Will” is truly a possibility
“Yes We Did” will become his legacy
So, Keep Barackin’ On
Now’s not the time to change direction
Keep Barackin’ On
Bringing us back on track as a nation
Keep Barckin’ On
To become what we were meant to be
A country of compassion, justice, and liberty
